Fate of Spit I N3197
Recorded as lost in operations in Morgan/Shacklady on June 5th, 1940, its loss doesn't appear in Norman Franks' "Fighter Command Losses".
Any clue of what happened? Thanks in advance. Chris |
Re: Fate of Spit I N3197
Air Britain Mark 1 Production List has
266 Sqn, shot down by Bf109's over Dunkerque, 2.6.40. Sorry no pilot listing PS. There is a photo of it with 266 Sqn coded UO-S Pilot was P/O J. W. B. Stevenson missing |

Dear Paul, i got a few old JG 2 Fotos with Egon Mayer, maybe 1941, and one of his downed Spitfire FT-A, can we find out the Pilot ?

Re: Fate of Spit I N3197
Are you sure it's FT-A? Or FY-A, perhaps?

Re: Fate of Spit I N3197
Hi,
It is Spitfire VB. The code letters should be FY for 611 Sqn. FT was code for 43 Sqn what used Hurricanes, and moved to North Africa in 1942. Interesting picture(s). Michal |
Re: Fate of Spit I N3197
It is with some trepidation that I tip toe into this discussion but I have had a fairly serious look at this photo and I have to say I cannot see any evidence of a code letter that might be 'F', 'T' or 'Y'. The paintwork I can see behind the German personnel looks to me like a vertical part of a letter such as 'H', 'I', 'J', 'K', 'L' or possibly 'U'?
Awaiting howls of derision.... Steve |
Re: Fate of Spit I N3197
Sorry it is FY A - my mistake - here is a better one, maybe the Fotos are from two different crashes. Pilot under his chute is another one. Greetings peglar
