Hello,

... The Bf108B is known elsewhere and complete marking is D-POL-98.

The photos of Bf 109 G-5 W.Nr. 27112 in overall RLM 76 are very interesting. Thank you!

Hi Ivan,

I don't know if it's a G-5... It's in Erla production batch 27000 to 27185 as a Bf109G-6. actualy it's a Bf109G-6/R3/R6.
There is 56 victory bars on rudder, all russian shot down planes, including the last four which are, I guess, US multi-engine planes. I think it matches with Dahl's machine, picture taken around December 1943.

Any comments to confirm this guess??

Regards, Franck.

The lower photo on p.40 of 'Luftwaffe Rudder Markings' depicts Dahl with similarly marked rudder behind him.

Well, in this case you can clearly see the vertical armor and the silica gel pellets in the canopy, so it's without doubt a G-5.

Well well well Ivan, no problemo, I clearly see the gel "pellets"; I'm not sure to see the vertical armor since 1/ it's not very clear, 2/ I still don't know how to make the difference!!!!
In fact I just discovered the are other G-5 in this production batch... Any available drawing to show me?

Thank you.
Regards, Franck.

http://www.stammkennzeichen.de/index.php?pge=search: WNr.27112, DQ+GF, and it's a G-5 definitly. Thanks again Ivan.

Hi,

It's true that the head armor is not so clear ;), but you can see the triangular openings typical in such armor pieces for pressurized Bf 109Gs.

Also, it seems to be fitted with a VDM 9-12159 propeller, so probably it's also fitted with a GM 1 system.

After some quick checking, I am thinking it may be the mount of Helmut Ruffler. The G-5s went to II./JG 3. Ruffler flew in 4 Staffel. His 52-54th claims were "heavies".

Re: New Bf 109s on eBay

Hi Don,

effectively when checking victory list on Luftwaffe.cz we can see that Rüffler got his first "heavy" with 52th victory, like did Dahl !!
But on the picture we can count 52 before the first heavy, that one being the 53rd on the rudder; no one (list) matches..... except if we add that Hurricane which wasn't credited (and not counted in lw.cz list) to Dahl credit.
In Michael Holm site we can verify that both II and III./JG3 got G-5s at that time.
Last, our friend Maciej said that a similar picture is on P.40 of "luftwaffe rudder markings"...
Since I haven't the said picture under my nose I just have to believe it until further notice. (or scan, would be better!)

You may be right Don, I don't have the possibility to dig deeper with what I have. But I keep my guess for the moment until new comments.

Regards and thank you for this comment. Franck.
