'He114' shot down 31 July 1940?
Hi guys
On 31 July 1940, a Blenheim crew encountered two 'He114s' one of which was claimed shot down by pilot and air gunner jointly. It was seen to crash into the sea off the Dutch coast. I note that BoBT&N has a He115 of 3/506 and a He59 of Senotzentral Cherbourg recorded as lost on operational sorties, but on 1 August. Might one of these have been the 'He114' reported a day late? Re: 'He114' shot down 31 July 1940?
Brian,
I think that this Blenheim was from 82 Sqn and the gunner claimed destruction of a "He 113". The bomber was under attack of Bf109s but all German fighters returned home. OK. I see now that it was a Blenheim of 114 Sqn and it in fact came across two "He 114" E of Haamstede. But in fact no German seaplane was lost in this encounter. Regards Robert |

Thanks Robert
I wonder what the crew saw "fall in flames into the sea", then? Cheers Brian |
