Spitfire claimed by Lt. Alfred Schreiber on 2nd August 1944

Good night for all!
I am trying to discover the identity of the SPITFIRE claimed by Lt. Alfred "Bubby" Schreiber, from Ekdo.262 on the 2nd August 1944. Apparently a PR machine. Found no losses on the USAAF side. Maybe 541, 542 or a 543 machine?
Does someone have any clues to the identity of the machine? Many thanks in advance.
Adriano

After a quick look there is no note of any interception of any sortie in the 541 Sqn or 542 Sqn ORB. 543 Sqn didn't exist at this time (disbanded Oct 43).

Andy,
Thanks for checking the ORBs and sorry for my absence..I'm very busy last months...
This SPITFIRE claim may be from Fighter Command...I checked the 2nd Group losses, but got no joy too...so, the identity remains a "mistery".
Thanks again
Adriano

According to Spitfire production lists available on the Net, there was no Spitfire loss this day over the area where Schreiber might have flown.

But 542 Sqn lost this day Spitfire PR XI EN682 for the following reason according to this source: engine failed wheels up landing nr Billingshurst Station Sussex CE 2-8-44.

If this was during an operational flight there is a remote possibility that Schreiber attacked it and damaged it unseen... But it is more probable that Schreiber overclaimed.

Maybe it was a Mustang, seen those confused before. Danny

EN682 was on an operational sortie (flown by F/S R.H. KERSHAW). Objectives where ports and A/Fs in Belgium and Holland so not likely to be in the area Erp.Kdo. 262 was operating. Reason for loss not stated in ORB.
