a JG53 Bf109E with an unknown emblem
 

Hi there,

these two pictures (only one in fact but I did cut it in two parts) come from a not so old eBay auction.
We can see what it seems to be a Bf109E from JG53. Below the canopy there is an emblem I'm not able to identify:
Can you?
Can you read and translate the back text too?

Hello,

no idea for the Bf 109 but for the writing on the back i would say:
"Die kleine "Mausi" mit 26 Abschüssen.
Belgien, Sept. 1940"
Roughly translated: " The little "Mouse" with 26 kills.
Belgium, ..."

Hmmm,
Thanks Norbert, that's the reason the seller is refering to Galland!... But of course it's not. I was reading "Hansi"...
What's the sign above the "u/n"? not an Umlaut?

But a Mouse? why not, since this emblem remind me a cat we can find in other units.

Anyway if it's a JG53 plane (Yes I see a shadow not a red band around the cowling - may be the "shadow is just in my mind) who got 26 victories in September 1940 in JG53?

The sign above the Sütterlin "u" is a curved horizontal penstroke to distinguish the Sütterlin "u" from the Sütterlin "n". "Umlaut" "ä" "ö" or "ü" are indicated by two small vertical strokes, originally signifying a small Sütterlin "e". The two dots of nowadays German "Umlaute" are remnants of these two vertical strokes.
So these Sütterlin "Umlaute" are in fact two letters: "ae", "oe" and "ue".

"Mausi". Definitely.
The first letter is a Sütterlin "M".:)

Not "if" Franck. It is a JG 53 plane. The band on the cowling can't be a shadow. Look to the left on the wall and the ground. There is no shadow. Only the shadow from the prop and the cowling. :)

This is a very nice and clean style of old German style hand writing. Most are much worse, very hard to decypher (for me at least).
