Do 24 near Crete
Hello all,
is there anything known about an crash of an Do 24 in the south of Crete on 24 May 1943? Unit, call sign, crew, reason of crash or ...? Many thanks in advance Rasmussen |

Your aircraft was Do24T-3 W.Nr. 0058 CM+IX of 7. Seenotstaffel. This aircraft arived in Greece from Venice on 18.07.42. 100% on 24.05.43 due to fire in the electrical system while on an ASR-mission some 13 km west of the island of Antikythers. The plane burned up during a forced landing.
Crew information: Uffz. Fritz Triebe (B) dead Uffz. Karl Hofmann (Bf) dead Obgfr. Heinz Buck (Bm) dead Uffz. Wilhelm Schmidt (Bm) dead Ofw. Willi Gebhardt (F) rescued wounded 4 rescued including Uffz. Wilhelm Schmidt who was severly wounded and later died. |
