Bf109 E-7 ?
What may be said about the history of Bf 109 E-7, W.Nr. 3800?
Thank you, Steve |

Here's a component plate; it was taken from the airplane during the war, possibly in Tunisia.

Re: Bf109 E-7 ?
Hi,
in my lists I have this WNr. with SKZ GA+LB, produced by Messerschmitt Regensburg. That´s all I have. Someone to confirm? Thomas |
Re: Bf109 E-7 ?
That image doesn't look like a typical aircraft WNr. plate.

Re: Bf109 E-7 ?
It's not a main plate. However, it is a typical style for an airframe component or assembly ID plate. It was not uncommon for the airplane's main werk nummer to be entered on such "lesser" plates. On this one, the year of manufacture (40, for 1940) and an acceptance/inspection stamp appear also.

Re: Bf109 E-7 ?
Servus, Stephen, et al.
No loss or damage for the Bf 109E WNr. 3800 available to me. Messerschmitt documents, however, unequivocally reveal that WNr. 3800 was constructed new at Regensburg as a Bf 109E-7 sometime in 1940. This airplane's SKZ is another matter. Unless someone has credible documentation establishing G A + L B for the airplane in question, the sequencing of the G A + L - block and the one before it bar any conclusions about G A + L B belonging to 3800. Tom Willis, can you comment? RA |
