2/12 - Bf109s on eBay

Hi there,

Choice is not extraordinary in terms of size/quality. But; one seller is offering a large choice of JG76 pictures, I suppose extract from a complete album since they start with 3./JG76 ending with 11./JG72 through 6./JG54, including unit members pictures and places...
One of the later is interesting since it gives us a direct link - I mean "relation" ;) - with one of JG2, I did find and posted last week, taken in Hirson: remember?
We can suppose, then, warts on picture were most probably from JG 76...
And, in this today's choice, one of that Gelbe 14 taken in Verdun (Boos it seems) View on left wing is good.

That's all friends.

Hi there,

Some corrections for #8:
As you can read, given caption is "saying" 10/6/40 b./Verdun which I read "bei Verdun".
This is not the first picture of this plane and a thread was dedicated to it in LEMB. From this former discussion I kept: " 6./JG 54, Autumn 1940"!
With that last picture it's not JG54 anymore but 3./JG76.
Boos is not "bei Verdun" since there are Five cities with that name: two in France, in Landes and in Seine-Maritime "bei" Rouen, and four in Germany. By far from Verdun area!...

One of our friends mailed me that could be in fact the JG76 Bf109 lost on 14/5/1940 "bei" Sedan (80km between Sedan & Verdun) and cited by Prien in BoF chapters.

Left the WNr. question...

Any thoughts?

Regards, Franck.

Re: 2/12 - Bf109s on eBay

Franck,

At the EOE WG we've been trying to ID this loss for some time. The camouflage pattern on the plane eliminates this being during the BoB. This is almost certainly 3./JG76. The 14 May 1940 connection makes the best sense so far. As is often the case, trying to correlate the general area of a loss in Luftwaffe records often doesn't match actual crash locations very well. This could be the case with this incident.

Thank you for your positive comment Larry.
As I wrote; what about the WNr.? Does Mr. Prien give it in his book concerning that 14 May 1940 loss? Or is it a pure speculation between a "supposed to be" JG54 loss occured in Autumn 1940 (with that camo...) and that/those pictures?

Regards, Franck.
