Hermann A Scherer

Hi All,

A relative of a family member was Hermann A Scherer, a Luftwaffe pilot who was shot down and killed towards the end of the war in 1945. That was my starting piece of information.

Through Google I have traced a Hermann Scherer who was a member of Nachtjagdgewschader 6, and I also found through Google an Excel file, a record of the crash of a Ju88G in February 1945. The file gave the following details: WNr 621185; Code: 2Z+KW; Unit: 12./NJG6; Date: 06-Feb-45; Place: Markt Bibart, Germany; Crew: Fw.Johann Mehner, Fw.Hermann Scherer, Fw.Portugall, Reg.Rat Kaufmann; Source: Deutsche Nachtjadg by Michael Balss (p369). However I believe that the crew bailed out, some wounded but all survived. I do not know if the Hermann Scherer on this aircraft is the same person. The Hermann A Scherer on my tree would have been about 26 when he died. I have already tried the German wargraves site but there is no grave registered for a Hermann Scherer.

I would be very grateful for any assistance the members on this forum could lend in helping me to find out any further information about my family relative. Please let me know if there is anything else I can add to the above which would be of help to you.

Many thanks,
Eric

Herman Scherer, who survived this crash by using his parachute was born 14 Jan 1918. The same person was MIA on 26 March 1945 with a Ju 88G in Oppenheim area. Other missing crew members are Ofw Anton Portugall (Bordfunker), Ofw Felix Kohlhöfer (Bordmechaniker) and Ofgr Wolfgang Kottwitz (Bordschütze). Details of the aircraft are unknown to me.

Regards,

Matti

MIA over Oppenheim? Wonder if she crashed into the Rhein River then. Might be interesting to search the German Wargraves database and see if any other the other crewmembers have a known grave. Danny
