ID of P-47 crashed in Ouffets, Belgium, on 17 Dec 1944

Hello,

I'm searching the ID of the AC and pilot that was shot down by Flak near Ouffets on 17 Dec 1944. The pilot, a Major, evaded capture.

From what can be seen in the pictures on this website http://www.stockamericain.net/produc...id_product=353, the P-47 was from 389th FS, 366th FG (code A6-), and his serial started with 42-2... but I have not found a candidate on the Internet P-47 database (http://p-47.database.pagesperso-oran...e/42-2xxxx.htm).

On the MACR list in December 1944, the only 366th loss with in the serial a 22 and a 6 in comparable places is the P-47 42-27369, MACR 11411, lost on 24 Dec 1944 but the pilot was killed.

Laurent, I believe he did not evade capture, but rather crash-landed in friendly territory. That would explain no MACR. I just checked my database and no loss in December that would fit this P-47. So that is why I assume, he came down behind friendly lines. Danny

You're right the source said that the pilot was helped by the locals and then picked up by the Americans.

So no MACR.

Hence the next question: does someone have a Major of 389th FS, 366th FG, crash-landing in this area on 17 December 1944, possibly after his two wingmen were shot down (AFAIK this is how it was reported by ground testimonies, and is not sure) ?

Thanks for the reply,

As often, the story as written by "witnesses" is difficult to confirm in official documents.

I wonder if the displayed pictures on the website are the good ones, or were just put there by the seller.
