1st Air Commando

In his book (Air Commando Fighters of WWII), Edward Young states that on 14th February 1944 two pilots were lost: Captain John Miller (who bailed out to become POW) and Lt Carl Hertzer (MIA).
However, I've not been able to put a hand on a MACR regarding those pilots and R. D. Wagner (Any Place, Any Time, Any Where - Schiffer) makes no mention of these losses.
Any clue?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Re: 1st Air Commando

Chris,

Here's one of the sites I use to help find tidbits of information which may lead me down the path to success.
http://www.accident-report.com/usaf.html

When I searched for the name Carl Hertzer, nothing comes up.
http://www.accident-report.com/crews...ate_hitch.html
I did find a CARL E HERTZBERGER.

I also use this site for the same tidbits of information.
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbaf.htm

The second sites search function for names only works for the pilot, not crew members. Search function information is at the bottom of the page.

I could not find a Carl Hertzer on either website. Perhaps an incorrect name spelling???

I did find reference to an R.D. Wagner on the first site, but not on the second. Maybe he was a crew member?
http://www.accident-report.com/crews...amew_weis.html
On the second site I did find reference to R.D.Wagner in the form of Raymond D. Wagner
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/s...ond&Submit7=Go

and Richard D. Wagner,
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/s...ard&Submit7=Go

Again, if R.D. Wagner was a crew member, he will not show up on the second website when doing a search.

Hope this helps. I sure do miss the Archives.

Merry Christmas,
Mike

Re: 1st Air Commando

Chris,

Lt Hertzer should be identified as 1st Lt Carl Hartzer Jr, O-667073, commemorated at the Manila American Cemetery on the Tablets of the Missing.
Unit 1st Air Commando Group. See ABMC.

He's still reported as missing on the DTIC website.

Regards,

Leendert

Chris,

Scroll down on this website to Carl Hartzer and you'll find a snippet of information: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ia/pol...y/polkwwii.txt
