Wealden Aviation Archaeology Group

Does anyone know what happened to this group? I'm trying to trace members who were involved in the excavation of Hurricane L1725 in Northumberland.

The aircraft crashed on 5th December 1939 whilst operating from Acklington. The pilot, 564104 Sgt John Arbuthnot baled out safely.

I have reports that suggest that the Wealden Aviation Archaeology Group excavated the site in 1978.

Many thanks,

Re: Wealden Aviation Archaeology Group

Yes it was excavated by that group. There was an article in Aviation Archaeologist by Andy Saunders about it, with a couple of photos, he quoted the date as the 23rd September 1978. It was in Volume 3, Issue No.9

Other than Andy, Steve Vizard was involved in the dig.

Much of the material recovered appears to have been taken away by a contingent from No.43 Squadron in their Land Rover for a trip to Leuchars.

The names in the article are

Andy Saunders
Steve Vizard
Jim Beedle (No.43 Sqn Association)
Brian Connolly
Steve Hall
