Me 323 unit insignias

Happy New Year to you all.

Working on an article on the Me 323 there are a couple of insignias that puzzle me. They are not listed in any book I know on LW unit badges.
Can anyone lend a helpful hand?
Sorry for the low quality of the pix but I cannot blow them up any further.

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Sorry.
The pix were probably too heavy.
Hope it works this time.

Hi Chris

First one is 1./TG.5 - a flying Elephant with long wings with underslung suitcase. Elephant has belt around its belly (the dark ptch in your image)

Second is the emblem of Feldwerftverbande (MOT) 10 a ground based luftwaffe workshop unit which has been applied to the fuselage of a TG. 5 Me-323E-1. My guess is this emblem is a 'Zap' where the ground unit applied their emblem to the flying units aircraft, probably as a result of TG.5 transporting the equipment of FwVb (MOT) 10. There is a picture of this aircraft on Page 46 of The Squadron Signal publication 'Luftwaffe in Action Part 4'.

Cheers

Chris

Hello Dan

For the second emblem, yes, but I also also used the aforementioned Squadron Signal book. For the first emblem I compared it with real examples as well as drawings in Ketley & Rolfe as well as the Waffen Arsenal Special 06 - Giganten der Luftwaffe Me 323 book.

Regards

Chris
