Information concerning Loss of Feldwebel Otto Bauer 0ver England 30.09.1940

Hi,

Could anyone provide details over the loss of Feldwebel Otto Bauer who was killed while on a mission over England on the 30th September 1940.

I found a couple of Bauer's who were listed as missing on this day in the Then and Now Battle of Britain book.

Is he a KG2 man?

Thanks for your help as always

Rick

Correct Robert.

8./KG3 Dornier Do17Z-3 (4227). Shot down by fighters following sortie over London and crashed in the Thames Estuary 2.40 p.m. BM Fw Alfred Salomo killed, BF Uffz Ludwig Schroff, HB Fw Otto Bauer, and FF Fw Rudolf Schierling all missing. Aircraft 5K+HR 100% write-off.
The body of Alfred Salomo, initially identified as 'Gniza' (sic), was washed up near Bennet House, Walton-on-the-Naze, on October 31.

Firstly, I apologise for joining this thread a bit late.

I just need to clear up a small point. In BOBT&N (p.669) there is reference to Uffz Schonn. He also appears in Mason (p.424). Is Peter Cornwell’s information in 2011 based on more recent research or has Uffz Schonn simply been omitted in error?

It would be a shame, after he gave so much, for Uffz Schonn to be lost to history just because of a typing slip. On the other hand he may not in fact have been there. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

RL2 III 1175 dated 07-Oct-40 Ber. d) strikes Uffz. Schonn from the crew list that was originally reported on 02-Oct-40 21. for this loss.
I have no further details. Maybe he was in a different aircraft and got back safe?

Norbert
