Hauptmann Franz Karl Theyerl

Does anyone have any bio information on this officer, most importantly does anyone know if he won the Knights cross because some websites seem to think he did but he isnt mentioned in Fellgiebel or on dasritterkeuz.de.

TIA

A search of our officer career database reveals only:

THEYERL, Franz-Karl.
(DOB: 24.04.18).
1944 Hptm., (awarded Ritterkreuz?), Staka 3./NSGr. 5.
05.02.44 Lt., awarded DKG, 2./NSGr. 6.
03.45 POW.

However , Tom Kracker's database holds a some more details:

Theyerl, Franz Karl. Hptm. - 4/24/1918 in Wien/Osterreich - 2./NSGr-6, Störkampfstaffeln (harrassment), Stfkpt 3./NSGr-5 - He 46, Fw 58, Ar 66, Go 145 (old trainer AC)RK(1/28/45), DK-G(4/3/44), EK 1 & 2, Night Assault Operational Clasp w/PendantTaken prisoner by the Soviets in Budapest, but managed to escape from the transport train in Romania on 30 March, 1945. Succeeded in reaching his home in Bavaria on 24 September, 1945 via Romania, Hungary and Austria. One of the few Night Assault pilots. 587 missions, about 550 at night. Deceased 12 June, 1972 in Düsseldorf.

This is about all we can find about this fellow.

He's listed in Obermaier's "Die Ritterkreuzträger … Band II" (revised 2nd edition, 1988)

RK "probably in April 1945", other details as given by Doug.

Thanks for the replies guys. The kracker archive was where I first ran across this guy and when I checked elsewhere he wasnt mentioned or if he was it was mostly foreign wiki type sites or the odd mention in some other context. Would it be possible to get a scan of his entry in the Obermaier book??

TIA

Not without knackering the book's spine. I'll photograph the page at the weekend and post that.

Re: Hauptmann Franz Karl Theyerl

If you meant, "is there a history of NSGr. 6?" - then all there currently is is the entry in Michael Holm's site: www.ww2.dk. There is a mini-history of the unit in Dive-Bombers and Ground-Attack units of the Luftwaffe, Volume 2, but this is not scheduled to be released until July 2012.

What did you want to know?
