Hawker Hurricane L1562

I'm searching for photos of L1562 that was used by AAEE for DH prop trials, then the Special Duty Flight and later 8 FTS before being converted to a MkIIA DR344 and sent I believe to Russia in Oct 1941.

Thanks in advance

Ok you can stop searching, as I found this - but where was it taken if at the time of the photo being taken it looks like it has a new unpainted DH prop. Does the hangar under construction give a clue to location and date?

And is its use in Russia as DR344 known or indeed traceable?

I have five or six good quality original period sepia shots of it, although they will be used in a forthcoming article.

What is the purpose of your requirement, Larry?

Here is one of the set.

Dear Andy,

Firstly I would like a good copy of L1562 as it served with the Special Duty Flight, Christchurch, which is one of the units I have been researching over the years.

Secondly I was going to send a copy to J Latin, who I believe contacted you regarding FL/Lt DL Rayment who was lost in Blenheim P4832, as she is to write an article on this relative of hers for BAW Magazine, based on research my father and I did on this subject! Its a small world!

Thanks in advance

Larry

Hi Larry
The Air Britain Serials DA100-DZ999 has DR 344 as one of a batch of Hurricanes rebuilt from Mk1s between July and Sept 1941 and despatched to Russia. The previous ID as L1562 is recorded.
Depending on how early the photo was taken the airfield MIGHT! be Martlesham Heath which was the home of AAEE before they moved to Boscombe. Tim Mason in his book "The Secret Years"(which covers 1939-1945 at Boscombe) does not record L1562 as having been at Boscombe at all.The only other suggestion I could make would be DeHavilland's own airfield at Hatfield.
Regards
Dick
