Gunther Specht's after action reports;
Guys:
Rereading Don & Richard's 'Luftwaffe over Germany' & a new comment stood out RE: Gunther Specht wrote insightful & informative after action reports for each mission he flew with II/JG11(I THINK it was that gruppe) against the 8th AAF; so I have two questions: Do these report still exist-hopefully translations in English; and Did any other Grkdr (Baer, Hackl, Priller etc) prolifically write the same sort of reports in any quantity? Thx NM |

Re: Gunther Specht's after action reports;
Hello Nick --
I'm sure other GrKdre wrote after-action reports if they were required, but these seem to be among the 95+% of Luftwaffe documents that did not survive the bonfires. There are a few in private hands, but there's no complete collection of them anywhere, and they certainly aren't in English. I have a few more of Specht's (auf englisch) in my new book, Day Fighters in Defence of the Reich: A War Diary, 1942-45, which has survived copy editing and is in the layout stage at Frontline Books. I expect it to be available this summer. Horrido! Don |

Thanks Don;
The news of the new book is AWESOME...I'll be looking for it. NM |
Re: Gunther Specht's after action reports;
Jochen Prien lists some of Specht's AARs in his JG1/JG11 unit history. With iGoogle its not that hard to read in English.
