P-38F found on UK beach (2007)
Old news, but since I stopped buying Flypast and similar magazines I haven't been following these items up close.
It looks like they found this rare dash-F in 2007, see the link for details. http://blog.flightstory.net/430/lock...d-on-uk-beach/ Does anyone know the current status, has this plane been salvaged? |

It is still there. It was "surveyed" by a US based group called TIGHAR (the Amelia Earhart hunters!) - an organisation about whom many in the historic aircraft world hold a certain "view", shall we say. Certainly, if not currently, they held the MOD licence for its recovery. However, the current word is that another UK based team are looking to recover it in this coming year. At least....thats according to my 'sources'. Well see.......!! When it hit the news a while back it was trumpeted as a new discovery, although its presence there has been known by many in the UK-based historic aircraft/ aircraft recovery world for many a good year. Indeed, I found correspondence about it to me from the late Al Brown going back to 1976! So, not exactly a new find. |

Thanks Andy, much appreciated!
Hopefully they can get things going and recover the bird from its shallow sandy grave. |

Indeed, "TIGHAR" site describes well the situation and their plan (just google "TIGHAR" and you will see)
who will win ?... GC |
