A possible "Trommelgerät" in a Bf110 - Photo
Hi!
Mr Fernando Stanislau kindlly directed me to a group of pictures showing 2 arming configuration under a Bf110. Could someone identify they? The third is look likes one of MG17 rear firing instaled in some Bf110E-2 and E-3 http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6554018595 TIA J.Lourenço |
Re: A possible "Trommelgerät" in a Bf110 - Photo
The first one seems to be a 3 cm cannon (to me :) ) - possibly MK 101 or MK 103, while the second picture shows exactly this set of 12 single RZ 65 launchers I mentioned in the earlier RZ 65 topic - but their fairing is present this time.
Kind regards Grzesio |

Both of you are correct. The top one appears to be an MK 103 (Tony Williams could ID it positively). The center one, is the tested RZ65 installation, with fairing, for the 110 (the 109 had 8 of them faired into the wing). There were manuals created for both installations that I have seen but don't have copies of. And, the last one, was a pair of MG 17s fixed, firing rearward. The installation worked as advertised -- aimed by a periscope mounted in front of the pilot. But, the enemy a/c would have to be permitted to come in directly behind the 110, thus giving the enemy a non-deflection shot at the 110.
