Hi all!

Does anyone have a photo or biography details of Oblt Ekkehard Tichy, 13.(Sturm)/JG3, 25 victories, Knight Cross, (KIA 16-8-44) ?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks,

I knew about that site, a very good one, although non-functional anymore.
I don't have Prien's III/JG3. I do have IV but i haven't found any photo of Tichy there. Are you sure about that?

All the best

There are two photos of Tichy on page 322 of the III./JG 3 volume. These show him sitting above the cockpit of a Bf 109G-6. They are not particularly good photos of the pilot, since he is looking downward and the camera was some distance away. There are no photos of Tichy in the IV./JG 3 volume, as far as I can determine.

Thanks Tom,

Truly, there are no pictures of him in IV/JG3 vol. Sooner or later I will get my hands on the III/JG3 volume. One more strange aspect of Tichy's award of the Knight Cross is the time elapsed betwen his death (16-8-44) and the posthumous award of the medal (14-1-45), also promoted to Hpt.

A photo of Tichy and a brief biography can also be found in Ernst Obermeier's Die Ritterkreuzträger der Luftwaffe 1939-1945 Band 1: Jadgflieger.

Cheers

Angelos,

..pages from my original site are gradually moving to my new homepages at http://members.aol.com/falkeeins/Stu.../contents.html

At least one of Tichy's victories was credited to the Stab./JG 300 - details in the new book. Ernst Schroeder still recalls Tichy from the sorties he (Tichy) apparently flew while seconded to II./JG 300 - see his long letter in SAM February 2002 in response to an article I published in SAM March 2001 on the Sturmgruppen..
