Major Werner Zober?

So can anyone add any information on this officer? The only information I have is that that he was a Spanish Civil War veteran and took over from Hptm Dahne of II/JG-1 when Dahne was killed in a crash in April 45.
He was described as "...the one legged and semi legendary Major Zober."
The Kracker achives have very little on him.

Here is what we have in our files:

ZOBER, Werner. (DOB: 20.11.11 in Neustrelitz). 1940 Oblt., appt Kdr. Erprobungsstelle Udetfeld (to 1944). 01.10.42 promo to Hptm.(Kr.O./Fl.). 12.02.45 Maj. in EJG 1. 01.03.45 trf to JG 1. 01.05.45 Maj., appt Kdr. I./JG 1 (to 05.05.45).

Checking with Kracker's database:

Zober, Werner. - Maj., Kdr. II./JG-1 (4/45), Kdr. I./JG-1 (5/45 Leck Ger.) Bf 109 (all models), He 162A-2 Werk # 120054Spanish Cross w/Diamonds, Fighter Operational ClaspA Spanish veteran, he replaced Dähne as Kdr of II/JG-1 after Dähne's death.

That's all we can find about this fellow.

E-Stelle Udetfeld.

Around 1940 on the other hand, a permanent installation for bomb-testing was established north-east of Beuthen in Upper Silesia. It was known as 'E-Stelle Oberschlesien', but later, probably after the death of Ernst Udet, became the 'E-Stelle Udetfeld'. its first Commander was Major Werner Zober who came from the E-Stelle Rechlin, being succeeded by Oberstleutnant von Riesen.

Re: Major Werner Zober?

Interesting, but no no one knows if he did in fact have one leg?

Or how he lost his leg?

Re: Major Werner Zober?

Perhaps he lost his leg in this accident:
1941-06-10, Generalluftzeugmeister, U 12B/A2, 393, Fl.Pl. Prien am Chiemsee, Absturz. Bruch 90 %.
F Lt Zober, Werner, verletzt

Re: Major Werner Zober?

Is that June 10th or October 6th?

Only a Lt.? It sounds unlikely that he would be a Kdr. of anything. Interesting, though....

Perhaps someone out there has more info.

10 June 1941. I use always ISO standard year-month-day. Date of birth is 1911-11-20. Maybe Lt is typing error in NVM.
