Recommended source on II./KG26 on Rhodes in March 1941?

I am trying to track down the identity of an aircraft that mistakenly attacked the Brazilian vessel Taubaté between Cyprus and Alexandria on 22 March 1941.

The most likely culprit is probably a He111 of II./KG26 based on Rhodes.

Can anyone either confirm this, or recommend a source on KG26 that might confirm this?

Many thanks,

Sid.

Hello Sid,

I don`t think that any plane of II./KG 26 was at that time based on Rhodes.
K.G. 4 is what you are looking for:

2./KG 4 St.Kpt., Hptm. Hermann Kühl
ab Anfang 02.41 (auch) von Gadura Rhodos zur Verminung des Suez-Kanals, ab 06.04.41 Verminung desPiräus Hafens. 29.05.41 nach Soesterberg
