27/03 - Bf109s on eBay & Delcampe

Hello TOCHeans,

1. http://cgi.ebay.de/Foto-Flugzeug-Me-...item588d4a1efc
Obviously it's not JG 54, but I'm quite surprised with that note on picture's back: JG 53 in Balkan? Where in Balkan?
Or is it a plane being SEND TO to reinforce another unit strength? Cowling is indicating a BoB plane. That's all I'm able to "read".

1. My German is a bit rusty but I think the caption on the back of the print says:
On the trip to the east we meet a transport-train with damaged war-equipment from the battle in the Balkans.
The aircraft appear damaged, note the dented oil cowler cowl. Wheels up landing? Also the wings appear to be laying on the floor of the railcar and the second aircraft as a wing laying against the fuselage. Not the way you would transport flyable aircraft. So the train is coming from the east, and how would the photographer heading east, know where in the east it's coming from??

3. Bf 109G-10? Large wheel bulges and short tail wheel probably not a K.

Yo Franck,

#3 is one of the two Bf 109's which landed in Rinkaby 12 April 1945:
- either Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr. 770 293 "Gelbe 67", Rinkaby.
- or Bf 109 G-10 W.Nr.130297 "Yellow 5" 10./JG 51, Fw. Horst Petzschler, Rinkaby.

Cheers
Marc

Yo Marc,

... Or 5./JG51 "Weisse 14", WNr.490137, flown by Hptm. Waldemar Wagler, we can see on background "Gelbe 67" picture.
Both "Weisse 14" and "Gelbe 5" had longer tail wheel leg, which "Gelbe 67" hadn't.
Note that port wing cross isn't visible.
I think it's "Gelbe 67".

Amitiés, Franck.

Good shot, Franck, I concur!

As for the left wing cross, you see its painted out position...

Cheers

Hello,

The Bf 109 G-10 is a WNF-built, so that it's WNr 770293.

Cheers,

JCM
