1/04 - Bf109s on eBay

Hello,

Bf109E flown by Hptm. Dietrich Hrabak. (Victory bars on rudder). Note the yellow band around fuselage. You can see the same (?) machine in JFV, Teil 4.II, page 311, but without the yellow band.

#3 - probably WNr. 2804 per his FB.

Because I didn't notice the yellow tail band initially, this may is more likely WNr. 5799 during the Balkan campaign.

and Jim also knows that he had meant WNr.2802 is another associated with Hrabak; WNr.2804 was one of Mölders' JG 51 birds.

I wonder if the horizontal stabilizers are painted gelb. That would certainly make this one unusual -- but it seems "unusual" is not uncommon with the JG 54.

Thanks again for posting this one, GRM

Aaah, Thank you for your comments, it was a good idea to wait a little bit.
I just wonder what place in balkan area got that green grass and thick forest in the background?

Note that the picture is "out" of ebay; not sold? or good negociation?

Cheers, Franck.

Re: 1/04 - Bf109s on eBay

Actually both WNr. 2802 AND WNr. 2804 are both listed in Hrabak's FB. Last flight in WNr. 2804 was 15-Nov-40. Last flight in WNr. 2802 was 2-Apr-41, first on 26-Aug-40. WNr. 5799 from 14-Mar through 25-Apr-41. Note that these dates are begin-end dates for use of machine, not meant to mean that he flew these exclusively during these date ranges. The guy flew a boat load of different machines between 38-41.

Re: 1/04 - Bf109s on eBay

Hi Jim,

I confess I have been a little bit unsettled by your 2nd comment and by the fact no Bf109E is given in Michael Holm list for that period...
Until I met that Paul Steindl E-4/B in my files; and among those "refueling" pictures I wonder if Hraback isn't present in one of the depicted scene??

Without your last comment I'm just reading I, then, decided to caption that eBay picture writing "Arad, April 1941" ... Good guess; one of the point being I "saw" Rumania has being a good place to find that "green grass and thick forest".

Cheers, Franck.

not to go off subject, but why is it that the swastika is never shown?
is it something political? moral? thanks.

Re: 1/04 - Bf109s on eBay

Hello Oberst,

Because most of these pictures come from eBay-Germany as like the sellers and it's forbidden by law to show it in Germany. So, it is something Political AND moral.
