Three pilots and their planes
 

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for information about three 8./JG 1 pilots: Fw. Egon Reichstein, Ofw. Alois Job and Oblt. Heinrich Overhagen. When did they fly with 8./JG 1 and what were their planes (and black numbers on the Messerschmitts)?

No one? :) I watched in the Kracker Archive, but wasn't able to find anything about their planes during their period at 8./JG 1.

The Tom Kracker Archive is about Luftwaffe aircrew only and so is useful for finding data about officers and non-officers:

Fw. Egon Reichstein and Uffz. Alois Job were flying together on 12 January 1943 when they intercepted off Norway the Spitfire R7041 of 1 PRU, that was shot down by Job as his first victory.

There is a picture of his aircraft, a Fw 190 A-4 "6 black" on page 125 of the book
"JG 1. L'histoire de la Jagdgeschwader 1 'Oesau'", by Eric Mombeek. ISBN 2-9509485-2-9. Sorry I have no scan.

In April 1943 III./JG 1 was renamed I./JG 11 and Job probabled remained with this unit under his new name. He scored his second victory on 18 Nov 43 with 10./JG 11 and was still with the same Staffel on 1 January 1945 when he scored his victories number 5 to 7.

I found no trace of Reichstein in JG 1 loss list and in German victories list.

Oblt. Heinrich Overhagen of 8;/JG 1 claimed one victory on 29 Nov 43 and two more on 11 Jan 44. He was killed on 12 Mar 44 when his Bf 109 G-6 WNr 760016 crashed near Fels am Wagram during a test flight. He had became Staffelkapitan of 8./JG 1 on 3 Nov 43 when Hptm Alfred Faber was shot down and killed in the North Sea. The book "JG 1" cited above said he was an Oblt having gained most of his experience in JG 1. He appears on page 196 on a picture of the aircraft of Oblt Herwig Zuzic (KIA on 19 Aug 43), with this pilote. By the way Overhagen was still Staka of 8./JG 1 when he died.

Note that 760016 is Györ production for what I know. a G-6y (on the picture you did provide)?

Yes, the Kracker archive is a great source. I have discovered many interesting things in it for my research. :D

If I understand correct: Egon Reichstein and Alois Job left 8./JG 1 in the spring to fly in JG 11. In this time, Heinz Overhagen already flew with 8./JG 1 and stayed there till his final crash on 12 March 1944. Is there anything known about the aircraft he flew in during the summer of 1943? This period is the main focus in my research, hence the earlier topic about Miksch.
