Re: Burma Banshees article

The article talks about credit where credit is due for the building of the Road (and magnificent work it was too), but the operations to Piccadilly and Broadway were predominantly British operations, supported by the 1st Air Commando and several transport units. These were not emergency landing strips, but strips carved out of the jungle for the insertion, operation and support of the Chindits.

There are several good accounts of the Chindit operations, although these are mainly from the land-forces' point of view. John Masters' work is possibly still one of the best. I suggest that aircraft enthusiast should consult Chris Shores' latest Air war Over Burma for a more balanced account of the Piccadilly/Broadway operations, and the Air Commando's part in the Burmese operations. Though you will have to look elsewhere for a good account of the operations on the Chinese side of the front.
