Request for info and photos of Peter Boddem of J88

I am looking for information about and photos of pilot Peter Boddem during his service with J88 of the Condor Legion in Spain. I have a copy of the Time-Life 'Fists of Steel' book with close up photo of Boddem in the cockpit of a Bf-109. Does anyone have any other photos or information for this pilot that would tie him to a particular Bf-109 matricule number? I wish to build a model of a Bf-109 associated with this pilot, who claimed 9 to 10 victories while flying for J88.

I am aware of photos showing Bf-109s with matricules o6-1 through o6-16 and 6o17 through 6o131, less the following: 6o18, 6o39, 6o41, 6o43, 6046, 6o57, 6o58, 6o65, 6o68, 6o77, 6o81, 6o85, 6o96, 6o97, 6o103 and 6o110. The odds are about 85% that a photo of Boddem's Bf-109 is already available, but which one was it?

Author Juan Arraez Cerda has confirmed to me (in an 1/2007 e-mail) the existence of photos of Bf-109s with matricules 6o46, 6o58, 6o68 and 6o103 which I have not yet seen. His e-mail also mentioned one for 6o63, which showed up in a German eBay auction this month.

Recently Bf-109A with matricule o6-10 has been attributed to pilot G. Lutzow while flying with 2./J88. I know of several differing personal markings arrangements for this long serving plane. Perhaps one of them was that of pilot Boddem.

Thank you for your time,

Hello Srecko,

Yes, I have both of these photos. The lower photo is from the Time-Life book I noted in my posting. In the upper photo Boddem is seen standing between Handrick (on the left) and Lutzow. It seems not much of a photo record is available for such a high scoring pilot. But, perhaps others know more.

Ken,
Author P.Laureau atributes 6-12 to Boddem, before being destroyed by H.Stange in a rough landing.

Hello fran & Srecko,

Thanks for the attribution of Bf-109A o6-12 to pilot Boddem and for posting a wreck photo. Fortunately machine o6-12 is one that is well covered photographically. I am aware of 7 photos of H. Stange's heavy landing result. Then there are another 8 of o6-12 seen while still intact. Perhaps one of these shows the machine as it was when Boddem flew it. Some minor differences in markings are apparent in the images of the machine while it was still intact.

Regards,
Ken Glass
