Per loss - Beim Rollen vom Flugzeug erfasst.

Per Babelfish - When rolling the airplane seizes.

Can anyone provide a better explanation? Possibly a brake seizure? Got one injured on 21-Jul-41 from Jagdfl.Sch. 4. No type listed, probably <10% damaged. Thank you in advance to any help. Jim P.

Actually the injured was actually killed - Schütz, Uffz. Waldemar.

Haven't come across this one before but "aircraft seized up while landing", I think, i.e. after the wheels touched ground but before the aircraft had come to a stop.

Could be the brakes or the engine seizing, I suppose.

Google Translate says "when taxiing aircraft acquired". Silly question, could the injured have been struck by a prop?

To me 'beim rollen' would translate as 'while taxiing'. It certainly could be during landing, but this one certainly is more unspecific than usual, in fact it's the only time I've seen this description for a loss (this from the Schulen losses). This could be an engine seizure vs. a brake seizure, as Don says. There is a 2nd casualty listed - Uffz. Hans Kratzel, but it is crossed out, so presumably that would make a 2-seater type, an Ar 96 or Bü 131 maybe? I haven't found a correction yet, and that may give more details. There is no aircraft listed with the loss, which generally means <10%, but a fatality occurred. (Grr, I'm so close to finally finishing recording the Schulen losses - this is literally my last page short of cross referencing with the duplicate fiche sets.) Guys, thank you for weighing in on this one.

My German-English technical and engineering dictionary gives the following:

erfassen: to comprehend, grip, bite, grasp, seize, detect, pick up, engage, determine, entangle.

Could the aircraft have collided with something?

Yes ... with Uffz. Waldemar Schütz (in all probability he was standing on the runway or sitting in another a/c).

The aircraft, with Uffz Waldemar Schütz (Flugschüler) and Uffz Hans Kratzel (Flugzeugführer) was taxying when hit (erfasst) by another aicraft.

In fact, Uffz. Waldemar Schütz "was seized by a taxying aircraft", i.e. cut to pieces:(

Matti's & Roland's explanations make sense in this context. My only question would be that usually in a collision (zusammentoss [excuse any spelling error]), it is stated as such - however, if the 2nd machine was undamaged....this is the only loss I've found that is described this way. Again, thanks guys for your help.

I am pretty sure that the expression "erfasst" in this context can be only related to a collision between a taxying aircraft and a life person most likely due to a technical problem or careless behaviour of the person on the ground or both.
