Database of Danes in allied military service 39-45
The Museum of Danish Resistance 1940-1945 has launched a database of Danes in allied service 1939-45
http://allieret.natmus.dk/Forside.aspx The user interface is in Danish only - at least for the time being - but it should be possible to use it nonetheless. If you are interested in Air Force only, just type "Air Force" in "Enhed" and press search. For my part, the database enables me to make even more information public as I now has a disclosed source available. In many cases, I have not been able to make a record public on my website due to Danish archive laws. Regards Mikkel Plannthin |
Re: Database of Danes in allied military service 39-45
I wonder if there is a data base covering Danes who served in the Air Transport Auxillery.
I am trying to find out more on First Officer Vera Strodl, who I understand was Danish. She was very attractive and I know that she was 'the centre of attention' whenever she arrived to ferry a plane. |

Larry,
Just enter "Air Transport Auxiliary" in the field "Enhed" (means unit) and you'll get 4 hits. She is one of them: http://allieret.natmus.dk/person.aspx?84449 From my website: http://www.danishww2pilots.dk/profil...alpha=s&id=164 In many Danish sources she is mentioned as Danish, but according to my information she was born in Britain. As far as I know she is still living in Canada. Regards Mikkel |

Paul
Thanks, yes and this is exeactly why I doubt the Danish 1945 sources claiming her to be from Bogense, Denmark. The had familiy here, but was born in England. This said she might have had dual citizenship - British and Danish. Mikkel |

Glad you received them okay, and they didn't block your mailbox! - any clues on the location of my father and 3 colleagues in June '45, in what appears to be a courtyard? The Cpl is also in the 125 Wing "telephone boys" photo taken at B.11 in July '44, about two down from Dad - a Cpl Peat - now all I have to do is identify the others !! Allan |
