Matthias 'Pimpf' Erhard
There seems to be very little information about him available. Does anyone happen to know his date of birth (and of death - as far as I remember, he was killed in action) and perhaps something about his background?
Thank you in advance. :-) |
Re: Matthias 'Pimpf' Erhard
Flew Fw 190 A-8 "Red 8" for 5./JG 300. Credited with seven victories and ended the war after bailing out with a shattered knee.
That's all I know. :D |
Re: Matthias 'Pimpf' Erhard
Hi Teresa
He was born on 30th May 1925. He was Klaus Bretschneider's wingman. On 31st December 1944 he claimed an Allied mustang, but was himself shot down, bailing-out unharmed from his Bf109. On 14th January 1945 he claimed an American B-17, but was shot down by return-fire, bailing-out severely wounded from his Fw190 over Kyritz, Germany, his injuries were such that his left leg had to be amputated. He survived the war. Among his decorations was the Wounded Badge. He made seven claims, all with 5./JG300:- 11th September 1944 P-51 Eschwege airstrip 1200 hrs 100 metres Nr.1 12th September 1944 B-17 Eberswalde 1128 hrs 8000 metres ASM Nr.2 6th October 1944 B-17 Rathenow area 1203 hrs 7800 metres Nr.3 6th October 1944 B-17 Rathenow 1205 hrs 7800 metres Nr.4 17th December 1944 B-24 Olmutz area 1200 hrs 7500 metres Nr.5 31st December 1944 P-51 Rotenburg area 1215 hrs Nr.6 14th January 1945 B-17 Kyritz/Rathenow Nr.7 The first two as a Gefreiter, the last five as an Unteroffizier. Re: Matthias 'Pimpf' Erhard
By the way, his first name is "Matthäus" rather than "Matthias."
