I have a question: when was the exact moment XII. Fliegerkorps was named into I. Jagdkorps? Or was there no such exact moment?
The reason why I am asking is that in the KTB, during September and October the XII. Fliegerkorps is still constantly named. No notion of the I. Jagdkorps.

Also, when looking at the Luftwaffe Career Summaries of deZeng & Stankey:

SCHMID, Josef (Joseph) (“Beppo”). 15.09.43 appt provisional Kommandierender Gen. XII. Fl.Korps. 01.04.44 appt provisional Kommandierender Gen. I. Jagdkorps.

Where does this date of 1 April come from?

I hope someone can enlighten me.

Hello,

In the diary of XII.Fliegerkorps, soon to be I.Jagdkorps, you will see/read references to the XII.Fliegerkorps into October 1943. Korpstagebefehl no.1 in this source is dated 24.10.1943, the previous Korpstagebefehle lacked any numbers, suggesting that the I.Jagdkorps inofficialy existed already. Coincidentally this 24.10.1943 was the same day that Hermann Goering visited the NJG 1 at Deelen.
The farewell party for Josef Kammhuber as General der Nachtjagd was held on 12th November 1943.
