Mystery Spitfire I on beach

Beow are two pictures I captured off the Web showing a crash landed Spitfire I on the beach. The serial number on the tail clearly shows "K992_". According to several sources the closest candidate is K9920 which was flown by PO KG Hart of 65 Sq and supposedly crashed at North Foreland on May 22,1940. However, my problem is the Germans posing for the photo in what appears to be France and not England. The tale continues because PO Hart also crash landed on Dunkirk on May 26,1940 while flying K9912 "YT-O". Could someone have mixed up the serial numbers? There is no gap between the serial numbers in the photo and the missing number would be at the end.Any thoughts

Not so clearly.
It rather looks like K99x2 to me.

Maybe so, but I don't see any gaps between the nine (9) and the two.

kaki,

We have a number of photos of this a/c in the EOE Photo DB, and we've concluded that Chris is correct. This is K9912, the a/c of PO Kenneth G. Hart, landed on the beach near Dunkirk on May 26, 1940.

Ok, I'll accept this but what happened to that "1"?

kaki,

The spacing for it is there, and it isn't clear from your images, but it's there.
