USAAF Nicknames for Fighter Aircraft

Can anyone tell me what nicknames or pet names American fighter pilots used to refer to their aircraft during World War II? I know that the British used "kite" and "crate," but what pet term would a typical American fighter pilot use to refer to his aircraft? Incidentally, Luftwaffe fighter pilots often used the term "Muehle" ("Mill") to refer to their planes. Again, I'm looking for the terms that American fighter pilots used for their aircraft. Thanks in advance!

Barry -
U.S. Pilots often used the term " The Bird " , " My Bird ".
P-47 Pilots often called their A/C " Jug "
as the shape resembled a Milk Jug.
Pilots also referred to their A/C as " She " , " Her ".
" She " was ready to go. I took " Her " down on the deck.
