83 Squadron's Manchesters on the Channel Dash Mission
Good morning to all!
May I ask your help to identify the codes OX*? and serial number of a Manchester Mark I which belly landed with a dead air gunner; after an unsucessful bombing mission agains the major capital German ships that had left Brest Harbour, on the 12th February 1942 - Channel Dash. I would be glad also if someone could help me to identify the name and RAF number of this dead rear gunner. Yours very gratefuly, Adriano Baumgartner |

There is a 2 page thread here that seems to come to a conclusion.
http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...G-WHIBLEY-RAAF http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...LEY-RAAF/page2 This link gives: 407565 Sergeant WHIBLEY, Leonard Garth It also has info on the plane, OL-M , L7387, and the action that killed Whibley. It may or may not be correct?? http://www.awm.gov.au/catalogue/rese...9125z004_1.pdf |
