Sgt. Malcolm Gray of 72 Sqn. BofB
In RAF Fighter Command Victory Claims of WW2, Part One John Foreman lists a claim on 26 Sept. 1940 for Sgt. M. Gray of 72 Sqn. for a Do 17 destroyed 100m E May Is. at 08.48.
However Norman Franks in RAF Fighter Command Losses of the Second World War, Vol. 1 lists Sgt. Malcolm Gray being KIA on 5 Sept. 1940 flying Spitfire I (N3093). This date is confirmed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission web site. Can anyone explain this discrepancy. I assume that either the date of the claim is in error or the wrong pilot is listed for the correct date. Thanks in advance. Tom |
