Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
I'd never seen this Website which has a collection of Pierre Clostermann's cartoons. Fw-190s, Spifires and people, pretty good stuff

Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
Great link, thanks!
There's a very interesting picture halfway down that seems to illustrate the now infamous incident of the "Von Graff" story and the yellow Focke Wulf. Notice that there's yellow I.D. markings on that Fw190 but it's not all yellow as can be believed from the book... The I.D. markings looks unlikely but at least more likely than an all yellow Fw190... :) Does anyone know whether these drawings were actually made during the war or later? (The yellow noseband on the Fw190 looks very much like the markings used in the east by Luftflotte IV in the spring of 1945 so I'm thinking it might be a drawing done in a later period and inspired by latewar markings used by the Luftwaffe) Cheers! / Anders EDIT: Never mind, tried google translator and it seems that they're really from 1943. Interesting! |
Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
Hello Anders
These cartoons did during the war like others he drew on some walls at the ops room of Biggin Hill. Clostermann left n°341 sqdn on september 1943. bertrand |
Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
Thanks for the confirmation! Could I perhaps also ask for a translation of the written words in the drawing of "von Graff"?
Thanks in advance http://www.pierre-clostermann.com/Re.../carnet9a.jpeg |
Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
Hi,
here is the translation: " a famous German General watches with "mixed feelings" the return of the unique survivor of the Van Graft Squadron". I have translated the word "Boche" by "German" but "Boche" is in fact a slang French word used since WWI, and it is is very pejorative; best regards GC |
Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
You should translate the word "unique" as "lone", hence: "the return of the lone survivor"

Re: Pierre Clostermann Cartoons
Thanks a lot for the translation! So it would appear that the illustration in fact does not shown the aircraft of this "von Graff" but someone else from his unit...
Cheers! / Anders |
