One of the lesser known planes is the Zmaj R-1.

One of the most advanced planes of the Yugoslav Air Force in 1941.

The prototype was captured by the Germans at Zemun (Belgrade).

The Germans were interested in the plane and they set it apart.

But near that the Germans had gathered old and for them unusuable Yugoslav aircraft and had fenced them in with barbed wire. They were destined for demolition/destruction.

But one night, as the Germans were clustered to the radio to listen to the
early Germans advances in the operation Barbarossa the Yugoslav workers who were ordered to scrap the old Yugoslav planes quickly moved the barbwire to enclose also the Zmaj R-1 and off course the Zmaj R-1 was quickly scrapped.
Luckily the Germans were so jubilant about the German successes in Russia that there were no repressions.
