Coloring propeller nose
Hi all,
I have a question for the Camo experts: Who decided on the Geschader/Staffel the painting / coloring of the propeller nose? Mostly there were two-tone or some with spiral. Was this a personal thing of each pilot? Specially : What was the coloring of the propeller 3.Staffel/JG26 in the East (January-June 1943) ? A help would be appreciated ! Best regards - Rainer |
Re: Coloring propeller nose
Rainer, I've moved your question to the general Luftwaffe sub-forum where it will get more attention and very likely an answer.

Re: Coloring propeller nose
If you are referring to the 1/3 white segment of the spinner or the spiral running around the spinner both were identification markings ordered by the RLM. They, particularly the spiral, were sometimes interpreted differently by different units but the application was not at their discretion.

Hi Rus,
Many Thanks for your reply. Here what I´m talking about. A two tone spinner of I./JG26 3rd Staffel 43. How do I determine the colors of this spinner on this b/w picture ? Is it red/white or black/white ? Difficult to understand. I´m also searching for the camouflage pattern of this Staffel when she was from january-june 43 at Russia. All I know is : yellow cowling below, yellow rudder, yellow tactical numbers and a yellow tail band. Any further idea there ? Cheers - Rainer |
