Assuming a WW2 aircraft of the period would travel at 200 to 250 mph then you should look for airfields in a 250 mile radius of Thies. I cannot see that there were any airfields inland and most appear to be built on the coast.
250 miles south east gets you to Guinea but I cannot find an airfield there from WW2. However north of Thies is an airfield in range at Port Etienne in Western Sahara. It was used by Coastal Command Sunderlands and Hudsons, so it had a runway as well as facilities for flying boats. 343 and 344 (Free French) Sqns were also based there equipped with Wellingtons in 1943 In Africa LG was the common abbreviation for Landing Ground which was followed by a number. Perhaps S54 is a French designation |
