B-24 42-63979
Hi,
i'm looking for any further information about B-24 42-63979 (93BG, 409BS), mission history, crew, pictures ... Background: The place of the crash on 21. July 1944 is a small hill about 3 miles north of the village Mittenwald in my home area. The plane was salvaged after the crash, only very small pieces of the AC have been found over the years after war. After visiting the crash site and the AC parts found in the years after the war by the farmer, we have now a exact location of the crash site and the identity of the aircraft. The crew bailed out, one crew member died. I have already studied all the pages of the MACR report, and collected mainly information about the dead crew member from different sources: Durbin's body was found dead in the wreck after the AC crashed. He was buried by german soldiers in a cemetery in the nearest bigger village called "Garmisch". (About 10 Miles NW) According to my information, it seems he was exhumed (like usual in Bavaria after war) by US authorities and transferred to St. Avold, US war cemetery in France. Finally his body returned home to his city to be buried in home soil in Tippah County, MS. Thanks a lot for help, regards from bavaria Lino |
