Why did Wing Commander E C de V Lart from No. 82 Squadron get a DSO in 1940 ?

Lart was killed on the 13th of August 1940 over Aalborg

Hi,

He received DSO posthumously, in June 1941, with effect from 31/7/1940, according to http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/35193/pages/3452 .
