Information concerning Loss of Gef. Ewald Becker - Invasion Front 07.06.1944
 

Hi,

Can anyone provide details of the loss, unit, aircraft etc related to Gefreiter Ewald Becker. He was killed in a flying death on the second day of the invasion and his grave is found in the Atlantic.

Do you have any idea what type of a/c he was flying (or flying in)? He is not listed in the 109, 190 or Ju-88 losses. There are some records with no name of the pilot.

I know my database is probably far from complete for non-fighter types for the 'Invasionsraum' on 7-Jun-44, but, though there are no names, this one struck me as a possibility (vor Cazaux - off Cazaux) -

The Volksbund database give the information as shown in the attachment. I guess the Ju 52 loss is a good possibility.

To note concerning Becker, that Cazeaux on 7.June was vastly bombed, seems they ignore that he took a plane that day to....is fate

Hi,
as far as I can see the only claim for a Ju.52 in the air on this day was by Col. G.E.Duncan of the 353rd F.G. 5 miles East of Ribecourt.

There were several JU 52 claims by RAF crews during the night of 6-7 June too.

Duncan made his claim at 2135 hrs on 7 June.
