Trying to ID photo of captured Wellington LNoF about 1940

Hello,

Have 3 photos of a 99 SQ Wellington that force-landed with wheels down and was captured that I'm trying to ID. This carries the codes LNoF, and was probably in the 1940-41 time period. Can anyone ID serial, date, place and details of this incident?

Thanks.

Dear Larry,

This 99 Sqn Wellington is LN-F serial T2501 that failed to return from ops on night of 4th December 1940.

Stangely I cannot find an explaination for why the crew landed intact. Perhaps it was poor navigation in bad weather?

All were taken as POW. Bomber Command Losses 1940 by WR Chorley gives the crew details but still no reason why?

Larry & Jan,

Thanks for IDing this one for me. Turns out to be a well-known incident based on the reference thread and photos from Jan. Another mystery in the DB cleared up with full info on the incident.

Regards,
