Re: GERMAN FIGHTER HEADREST: Me109 or FW190 ?
Thank you Carl,
most likely the second one (Erich Viehmann) , since Ossun is in the area (and not Les Sables nor Mimizan). Thanks a lot again; GC PS: "wia" means "wounded in action" ? |
Re: GERMAN FIGHTER HEADREST: Me109 or FW190 ?
Hi,
as far as I know, this type of head armor was introduced as an additional equipment during the production of the Me 109 E-3 and retained until mid production of the Me 109 G-6 (when it was succeded by the so-called Galland-Panzer, which comprised a large panel of armor glass). Regards, klemchen |
Re: GERMAN FIGHTER HEADREST: Me109 or FW190 ?
Gilles,
I now have access to the NVM for Viehmann. The location is "12 Km NW of Ossun", time is 11:1o hrs. Cause is "Presumed crashed due to altitude-sickness. Aircraft burst near ground. Pilot thrown out of a/c, immediately dead". And: Yes "WIA" is "wounded in action". I know, that this should be "WIFA" -"wounded in flying accident", but I do not make any difference in my database. Greetings Carl |
Re: GERMAN FIGHTER HEADREST: Me109 or FW190 ?
Thanks Carl,
it is matching perfectly: - 12 KM NW of Ossun is the crash place. - A witness mentionned that the pilot was killed and was out of the aircraft. Thanks also Klemchen for your precision on the armour type; Best regards to both of you and to all readers. GC |
