Gunter Specht 2/22/44 B-17 Action Report?
Anyone have access to Gunter Specht's 2/22/44 action report claiming a B-17 near Detmold?
My grandfather was supposed to be on that flight but wasn't, luckily. Am researching it. Very strange -- the B-17 was attacked initially almost 39 minutes earlier and was seen dropping out of formation with a fire in the front end, according to the MACR. Specht claims shooting at it at 14:42-14:55, but it continues to fly until 15:09 when the crash is reported. I'd love to know what he saw. |

I think they must have survived because I have heard of books referencing them. Plus the information on the Detmold shoot-down is out there on the internet to some extent -- distance from town, height shot down from, etc.
