Heinz Gruber; "So we bombed Moscow alone"
Hello friends,
is there anyone around who knows/owns this book ? Heinz Gruber; "So we bombed Moscow alone" published 1960. I would like to know is it fictional/novell or kind of biography with "real experienced" background ? Many thanks for answering and Schoene Gruesze Norbert |
Re: Heinz Gruber; "So we bombed Moscow alone"
Hi Norbert,
"So, we bombed Moscow alone" is Gruber's autobiography. He served as a gunner in III/KG 4 and KG 100 from 1941 to the end of the war. He provides a fairly detailed account of his experiences in He 111s and He 177s over Russia and England, including places, dates, crew names, and even his aircraft's Verbandskennzeichen for some missions. He mentions that he flew 175 missions on the Eastern Front and was awarded the DKiG in 1944. (I found his entry in Scherzer's book, but the unit is listed as "x/KG x") The book is shortish (106 pages) but nicely balanced, with interesting details about combat and aircraft, as well as the human aspects of the war. It includes some photographs, but they're small and unremarkable. Regards, Leon Venter |

Re: Heinz Gruber; "So we bombed Moscow alone"
I have the book and enjoyed reading it. As previously stated its a shortish book I bought mine a number of years ago direct from the author. Don't spend too much on purchasing it.
