Oblt Steiner / Steinant / Steinat, 6./ZG76

Hello all,

I've the above officer WIA on 27 Jan 1945 in Me-410B2 M8+ yellow1 W.Nr. 410218. However, my info comes from several lists [no primary sources] and each gives a different name -- Oblt Steiner / Steinant / Steinat, with 1 giving the 1st name as Emil.

Can anyone confirm the correct name, perhaps from an NVM? And is there any other info on this officer e.g. date / place of birth, wartime fate etc.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Andre -

Here is the only one in the HLdeZ/DGS data base that begins with "Stein" and has Emil for a first name:

STEINAT, Emil. (DOB: 14.10.19). 05.06.44 in Erg.St./ZG 76. 24.07.44 in 11./JG 54.

Does this seem to be the right one?

Guys, thanks for the info. Great stuff!

Larry, yes this would appear to be the right guy, as movement from Erg.St./ZG76 to II./ZG76 makes sense.

Andreas, thanks for the GQM extract.

Anyone know Oblt Emil Steinat's wartime fate?

Larry,

I just noticed your entry -- '24.07.44 in 11./JG54'.

I think this date is incorrect, but the unit is correct. Based on the loss date, we know Oblt Steinat was with 6 Staffel II./ZG76 in Jan 1945 when he was injured, and since this Gruppe became III./JG54 in Feb 1945, he probably returned to his old unit upon recovery: 6./ZG76 --> 11./JG54.

Thanks, Andre. I have no idea where that entry came from so I can't check back to see if there's a typo there, but I agree with you and I'll fix it up in our data base.

Cheers, Larry
