Re: a small Mustang part to identify
Craig Fuller has 97- on his site as A-36A Apache (dive bombing P-51A).
The info is from this link http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/partmanu.htm |
Re: a small Mustang part to identify
Thanks Alan,
but I have a problem: this part comes fromChuck Yeager's "Glamourus Glenn" (N°1) which was - as far as I know - a P51B, and not an A36. How come ??... Best regards. Gilles |
Re: a small Mustang part to identify
It wouldn't surprise me if A-36 parts were used in P-51As and P-51Bs, the same thing went with British manufacturers using parts that were interchangable.

Re: a small Mustang part to identify
The P-51B and D had quite a few parts from the earlier Allison engined airframes. Most of the changes from P-51 to P51B were from dropping the wing, completely modifying the lower and upper cowl, re-designing the radiator/oil cooler, intake cowl, etc.
Even if changes were made to a 97- series part number, unless it was a radical change it would just been updated through ECO to a dash number of that same part and then added to the BOM on the P-51B (and D) |

Tanks to both of you for clarification! Always good to learn.
