Re: Ju 52 loss 1940
Hi Peglar,
This was one of the Ju52's that supplied the airborne troops of Operation NiWi early on May 10. These troops had been flown in by Fi156's, although it became a slight mess due to navigation errors. Grande-Rosière (or Rosière-le-Grand) is 2km NW of Nives. This a/c landed around noon to supply the ground troops brought in by the Fi156's, but was surprised by a Chasseur Ardennais T-13 tank that destroyed the Ju52 with its canon. In total 3 Ju52’s were lost as part of Operation Niwi: the one at Grande-Rosière, one at Chaumont (some 10 km E of Nives) and one at Witry, all of them between 12.00 and 2.00 p.m. Nice to have a picture of this aircraft! Regards, Pieter |
