Re: Photos + 10-7-05
The Flugbuch is kind of confusing............The first 262 flight has a Stkz of OO+F....to my knowlege, there were no 262's in the OO blocks, especially at this early date. Not having the last letter doesn't help either. The next two flights, in '26' at Lechfeld, might be 130026, which would about fit for the June dates, and at Lechfeld. It appears he was an Einflieger or with Fl.U.G. as a ferry pilot. Can any of our German friends read his name?

Re: Photos + 10-7-05
Hi, Dan
I think he was a pilot teacher, as his Begleiter is noted as being a "Schüler" (look at the top og the column Begleiter) in a lot of the entries. It is also possible that he has used the 'inverted' notation that a lot of pilots have, and that the partial code of the Me 262 is '?F+OO' (as You can see he uses the Notation '- 26' which could have been '26 + -', and '+ 13' which is most certainly '13 +') I read his name as Querl, at least a name I have read somewhere. This Lancaster was ED781 of Nr. 57 Squadron, shot down (presumably by Oblt. Walter Barte of 4./NJG 1) in the night of 24/25 June 1943 near Liège. You'll find more information about this aircraft in Chorley's book (RAF Bomber Command Losses of the second World War - 1943, page 204), although he gives the victorious pilot as being Oblt. Wilhelm Telge of Stab II./NJG 1. You'll also find one the photographs sold on e-Bay (but not reversed) in the Lorant/Goyat book about JG 300, page 25 of the French edition (Larivière) or 26 of the American edition (Eagle Ed.). Re: Photos + 10-7-05
Hello Richard,
Thank you very much for your reply about the Lancaster. Because of its code, I guessed it crashed in my area of west of France. It was a mistake ... "tant pis pour moi". Congratulations for you great book (with J.Y.L.) about the JG 300 ... it will be my next Christmas'gift ... my wife agrees ... ... et j'ajouterai "cher collègue" : nous travaillons en effet presque dans la même maison (le Ministère du Travail) Pierre BABIN |
